Opened in 2002, this stop on the Tyne and Wear Metro system is ideally placed for anyone visiting the Stadium of Light to see Sunderland FC play, the Sunderland Aquatic Centre or the nearby Beacon of Light. Oddly, it is actually closer to the Stadium of Light than the the Stadium of Light metro station. The station is elevated but there are lifts to both platforms and a good range of accessibility features.

The station has two stops, both accessible via a lift. The lifts have braille buttons inside and out and are big enough for most mobility devices. If taking the stairs, there are rails on either side with contrasting stair nosings, tactile paving at the top and bottom and several landings should you need to take a break from climbing. Tactile paving is installed at the platform edges and audio announcements are in use. The station has a large canopy on each platform with bench-style seating. Each platform has a help point with braille markings on the terminal and a hearing loop symbol. These are reachable from a seated height and can also be used to request a taxi. The ticket machine is accessible from a seated height, though some may need to stretch to reach the keypad if entering a PIN. Tickets can also be purchased online as an alternative. Hearing loops are active throughout the station.

There are two accessible parking spaces and a taxi space at the rear of the station. The accessible parking spaces are long, side-on bays. Further parking can be found down the hill at the station car park, which has one accessible parking space. This is a slightly larger standard space with no markings on either side, bordering a standard space.
