Overall Rating
Excellent
We visited this wonderful museum on a very rainy morning. We were mostly just looking for an indoor attraction and I am so glad we came here! It was a really interesting tour through the history of the Isle of Man and the way it was presented was really clever. I found wheelchair access to be very good throughout and my assistance dog was fine, though there are some strong smells on the journey through time.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
The museum is on three floors and there are lifts to take you between them. The route around the museum is well marked and if you take the recommended route, it tells a good story. Some of the surfaces are a little uneven due to them being part of the historic experience but I managed to get around fine, without any help. The cafe and shop were open and spacious, well lit and clean.
Accessible facilities: Lift to all areas, Step-free entrance, Seating at regular intervals
Parking & Transport
Poor
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
We arrived in Peel by motorhome and there were several road closures. Many of the streets are narrow and unsuitable for large vehicles. We ended up parking at the far end of the promenade and walking/wheeling to the museum, which took about 20 mins in the pouring rain.
Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
Good
I only used the toilet near the entrance. It was clean and okay. Nothing special but had grab rails and was easy enough to get inside with my chair and assistance dog.
Facilities: Accessible toilet
Staff
Excellent
All staff were really helpful and friendly. One lady at reception was kind enough to warn us about smells that might be an issue for my dog. As it happens, it didn't bother her but nice that she thought ahead.
