Overview
THIS IS PART TWO OF OUR MOATHOUSE REVIEWS, and A very pleasant garden awaits your visit, choose a sunny warm day to visit, and relax in the grounds, it’s delightful. This old 14th century Manor surrounded by water, has remains of an old moat, a pleasant walk around two small ornamental duck ponds, bordered by a lovely stretch of canal, often full of moored boats, ducks galore who wander around without a care in the world, a truly wonderful sunny warm summers day visit. Coming out of reception, make use of the ramp by the entrance, (photo 1) and go down and around towards the pool (photo 2) then face an uphill push for your carer, easy enough if they are fit, (3) and find an empty bench to look over the pool (4). It’s a lovely small pool, usually full of a variety of water birds (5) before heading back towards the hotel (6). Over to the left is the second of the pools, where you will see many wedding photos being taken (7) as it’s so scenic a spot (8) Now go up towards the old pub itself (photo 9) and pass its entrance (10) and walk past the side entrance (11) towards the greenhouse looking conservatory of its restaurant (12) which is really a nice place to enjoy an evening meal. (13 and 14) which overlooks a canalside view (15) with a small terrace is available (16).
Transport & Parking
For this review, PART TWO, the car parking is not quite so good, as you still need to park by the hotels reception entry. There are four disabled bays for you. But then it’s a push and pull effort to get to ponds and canalside.
Access
Difficult for disabled, as the disabled bays and all car parking involves a push and pull effort to get to The old Inn and pools, as it’s quite a way from the hotel entrance. Yes, there are ramps, with an uphill push to get to the top by the pools, and then you will find many seating places, but these can get full in the summer months as it’s a very popular hotel.
Toilets
We can only offer one star on this particular PART TWO review, as to get to disabled toilet you have to go round and down the slope to hotel entrance, up the ramp, in through a pull handled doorway, and round to toilets. However, this is clean and tide, spacious enough with grab rails if needed.
Staff
Not very helpful on this visit. Other visits have been in the summer months when we sat outside by the pools and staff came up for us to order drinks.
