Overview

Wetherspoons is a cheap and cheerful place to eat, however due to the outside design of the building, it was very hard for our group of individuals with learning disabilities to get into as all the windows and doors looked the same!

Transport & Parking

There is no parking for The Postern Gate Wetherspoons in town and the nearest bus stop is at Piccadilly which is quite a walk away from the restaurant.

Access

There was a large sign outside which members of our group where able to identify which helped to indicate that we had arrived at our destination. There are several entrance points to the restaurant which include flat level access. However, due to the outside design of the building it means that the windows and doors all look the same which confused our group and made it difficult to get inside. Wetherspoons is not table service, therefore you have to go to the bar to order.

Toilets

The toilets are flat level access however I did not see a disabled toilet and the website does not indicate that there is one available. The signs on the toilet doors to indicate gender were not clearly displayed and did not have pictures meaning that if someone was not able to read, it may be confusing.

Staff

The staff engaged with each of our group to take their food order and understood everyone who spoke with them. They asked appropriate questions such as ice in drink etc, which demonstrated equality. The menu has lots of different items on with small print which made it difficult for a member of our group who has a visual impairment to read it. I do not believe their were any alternative menus available such as large print or braille.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Wetherspoons is cheap and cheerful with good food at great prices. The staff were very friendly but the access could definitely be better. However, every member of our group said they would return!
