Overview

Disabled access is from the High Street, through the gate that is opened 45 minutes before the film starts and then through a door which is where bottles for the bar are unloaded. There is a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities in this area but it seems to be used by anyone/everyone as the main toilets are upstairs. There is a ramp to the bar where tickets are collected from.

Transport & Parking

Parking is in council or supermarket car parks in the town centre a short distance away. Local buses stop along the High Street.

Access

The cinema is on two floors, downstairs the seats are four around a table, upstairs it is traditional cinema seating. The seats around tables are very comfortable and swivel so that they are accessible to people who have disabilities. Wheelchairs can be placed by the ramp if not needed for seating during the film. This is a very popular cinema built in the 1930s, closed in 1988 then refurbished and re-opened in 2004.

Toilets

Situated by the disabled access door, it seems to be used by everyone on the ground floor despite there being ladies and gents toilets upstairs. This means that it can get very busy at the end of the showing when everyone is leaving.

Staff

The staff were very helpful in directing me to my seat and where to leave my wheelchair.

The Rex is a beautiful quirky art deco accessible cinema. Most films are sold out shortly after they go on sale. online booking is available, carer goes free but you need to ring the box office for this.
