    The Rutland Arms Hotel

    Bakewell

    Poor accessibility

    1

    Date of visit: August 2026

I am a disabled person and a carer or friend of a disabled person. I have experience of challenges around: accessing toilets and moving around.

I use or have experience of: disabled toilet, hidden impairment, toilets, wheelchair

A sign in the Rutland Arms Hotel Toilet that says "Emergency pull cord temporarily out of action. Sorry for any inconvenience."

This venue was not accessible. There was no obvious accessible entrance, so my wife had to get out of her wheelchair and stagger up the steps. I had to carry the wheelchair. There were staff present as we came through the door and not a single one offered help. When we used the accessible toilet, there was no red pull cord. Instead there was a sign saying "Emergency pull cord temporarily out of action. Sorry for any inconvenience." Needless to say I have contacted the business and am awaiting a response, and have ordered some red cord cards.

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle

The nearest car park does not have any blue badge holder spaces. Pavements are thin and uneven, and some only have a lowered kerb at one end.
