Discover the life and times of Samuel Johnson, England's greatest man of letters over five floors of exhibits in a beautiful Grade I listed building including period room settings, an introductory film, interactive displays and activities for children.

Accessibility

The Birthplace Museum is a Grade I listed historic house and has many unavoidable steps. A flight of 5 steps leads into the main entrance, where a virtual guide, guidebook to the house and introductory film are available. The virtual tour is also available on the Museum's website. A hearing loop and visual alarm system is provided. Large print information sheets are provided, there is a good contrast between walls and floors, and assistance dogs are welcome. The Museum offers an outreach service for groups, and level access facilities are available for library researchers.
