The Range

We visited The Range homewares store just for a wee look round and decided to pop into the attached café. The Range itself is pretty good with loads of reasonably priced stuff, from kitchenware to bedding and even a small garden centre attached. However, this is quite possibly the worst experience I've ever had in a café. I wasn't expecting much with it being just an add-on to The Range but how badly could they screw up a few hot drinks? As a family, we ordered a latte, a cappuccino, a mocha and a tea, three hot cross buns and a prepacked slice of lemon drizzle cake. The first problem was that the cashier tried to put it all through as separates as opposed to the £3.99 drink/hot cross buns deal which doubled the price and she had to get a manager to sort it. A smile wouldn't have gone amiss either. We then had to wait for 35 minutes for those four drinks, despite there only being three other tables in the place. When they finally arrived, the cappuccino and mocha were barely lukewarm. The latte was cold. Not just lukewarm, properly cold as if it had been made straight from the cold tap. There was no tea at all. The hot cross buns were tiny, the sort you get in a 9-pack in the supermarket, not proper 4-pack ones. Despite being pre-wrapped, the lemon drizzle cake was stale. We decided to abandon the place as a bad deal, not willing to wait another half hour for the pot of tea or a hotter latte. The Range itself is great. Avoid the café like the plague though...
