Overview

Town Hall Tram Stop is a central hub on the West Midlands Metro line, just a skip from Victoria Square. It offers easy access to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and is a short walk from Birmingham Library and The Exchange. Tickets can be purchased on the platform, but I’d recommend using the My Metro app to book in advance and plan your journey more efficiently.

Transport & Parking

The most convenient way to get here is by tram, of course. If arriving in Birmingham via New Street, 320 metres away, you can hop on the tram outside the station. Parking options aren't great, as the area is mostly pedestrianised, but there are on-street accessible spaces on Swallow Street, less than 100 metres away.

Access

The tram stop has platforms on either side, both with tactile paving at the edges. There are a few wooden bench-style seats you can use, and a ticket machine on one side. The platform across from the Town Hall has a long sheltered section with additional wooden seating, along with overhead displays showing tram times and expected arrivals. Level access is available on both sides, with clearly marked areas for those with disabilities to board. This section also has tactile paving. The ticket machine is at a good height for wheelchair users, but there’s no Braille on the panel or buttons, and no headphone jack is available. To the right of the machine, there’s a help point button with Braille markings and an operational induction loop.

Toilets

There are toilets available in some of the eateries along New Street, and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has an accessible toilet, which is free to enter. If you need access to a Changing Places toilet, there are a few options nearby. One is at the Library of Birmingham, and another is at The Exchange, both about 500 metres away. Birmingham New Street Station also has a Changing Places toilet, located roughly 320 metres from Victoria Square. Just be aware that getting there means navigating through New Street, which can be quite busy with cars and delivery bikes.
