Second Visit, Very Accessible Place to Stay

5

Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid

Overview

A very accessible hotel, with 2 accessible rooms with wheels in shower. On the outskirts and a short journey to the town centre. This is my second review for the Travelodge in Glastonbury. This stay my spoons were very low as still recovering from covid, so apologies for the lack of photos. However, please see photos from my previous review.

Transport & Parking

Glastonbury does not have a train station. I took the 376 bus from Bristol which took about 1.5 hours. The bus stop is called Wirral Roundabout. Since my last visit in September 2022, the First Bus app no longer allows you to purchase day tickets only seasons tickets. However, I was still able to use the app to see the real life bus departure times for my chosen bus stops, which is very handy feature, especially as I was there over the bank holiday weekend when there was a Sunday service in operation of 1 bus an hour.

Access

4.5

There are automatic, double entrance door and it is step free throughout via a lift. I had the same accessible room I had the last time. It was an accessible room with wheels in shower. The bed was comfortable and the mattress firm for an easy transfer. The room had a wardrobe and shelf space, desk and two chairs. The bathroom had plenty of grab rails and two emergency cords. One is right next to the door, so you have to be careful which one you pull for the light switch. Also the bathroom floor slopes down towards the shower area. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Last time I visited, I had raised with the staff that the emergency red cord is by the bathroom door and not the toilet or shower area, where it would be better located as it is here that someone is more likely to fall and that there is no signage to let people know that the bathroom floor slopes down to the shower area. Neither of these points have been addressed, although they were previously escalated to a manager.

Toilets

I don't think there are any public toilets in the hotel.

Staff

Staff again were very nice, helpful and friendly. When I checked in, a member of staff came with me, showed me where the refuge point and evachair were by the stairs and also checked that I was happy with my room before leaving. When I checked out, I left my key in a box on the desk. Any other contact with staff was a hello when passing through reception.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The Travelodge is on a retail park. On the ground floor of the hotel building is a Domino Pizza and Wirral Plaice Fish and Chip Shop. Since my last visit Subway has closed, and nothing has opened in its place. Adjacent is a large branch of Tesco and a drive through Costa Coffee and a KFC. This makes it very convenient to stock up on basics or have a takeaway. This is my second stay and it works really well for me. It's a comfortable and accessible place to stay. It's easy to get around on public transport with the bus app its easy to know when the buses are running into town. Will definitely be back.
