Amazing holiday! Extremely well designed and equipped accommodation for wheelchair users. Can't wait to go back!
We loved loved loved our holiday. Almost as soon as we came home we were already thinking about booking another holiday there.
There are 3 cabins which have features that make them more suitable for disabled people. Then there are 3 houses which are even more set up for people with very limited mobility, like me. We stayed in one of these houses: Clare Milne House. The photos they have provided have been taken with a wide angle lens, so it's not quite as big as it looks. But plenty spacious for the 5 of us, my power chair and some extra equipment. Not only is it designed to be perfect for disabled people, but it's a really nice space too. Everyone in our party (me, my two carers, and my parents) felt comfortable and at home there.
The house has a hob and worktop that can be lowered for wheelchair users to cook; a carers’ bedroom connected to the main bedroom; and ceiling track hoist in the main bedroom that runs into the en suite. Perfect for me. Each of the houses has its own hot tub on the deck! There’s a gantry track above and a portable hoist that can be clipped to it. Such a joy to be able to join in and go in the hot tub with everyone else! They also have a whole host of equipment that you can book out (for free). We booked a rise recliner arm chair, a shower chair/commode, profiling hospital bed and a mobile hoist to get me into the rise recliner. Everything was great apart from the mobile hoist. I would have given Trevassack 5 stars but we had issues with the mobile hoist. The battery (despite being on charge all day) started to give up after a minute of use, very nearly stranding me in the recliner. We reported it and they brought us a replacement hoist. This one was just as bad and this time I was stuck. We had to push me on the mobile hoist (hanging very low as it wouldn't go up) into the bedroom. My parents held either side of my sling and had to bodily lift me up onto a dining chair. Then I was transferred onto the ceiling hoist. Having one mobile hoist that was a bit knackered is one thing. But both is a bit bad really. They need to be checking the equipment and the batteries a bit better. But we've made them aware of this and I'm sure things will improve in future. It certainly wouldn't stop us going back.
The site is great. The lake, where you can do watersports, has a café which does nice food and the staff are lovely. The café has fully accessible seating areas inside and outside. We sat on the deck outside looking over the lake. There's a disabled toilet in the café and two changing places toilets by the lake. Most of the surfaces around the site are not just tarmac, but lovely smooth tarmac. There's a slope down from the house to the lake area but a wheelchair lift as well if, like me, the slope is a bit too steep.
While staying at Trevassack we visited Poldhu Beach and Bonython Gardens, both of which I’ve written reviews for. We also went for a ride round the lake on the fully wheelchair accessible boat, sort of like a floating platform. Great fun!
