Grand Afternoon Out at Grand House!
Nice afternoon spent at this Victorian Gothic style house & gardens, 20 minutes drive from Bristol. Easy parking, blue badge spaces by entrance building. Tramper all-terrain mobility scooters available right outside doors (free, but pre-booking required, just ring them day or so before). Easy to navigate tarmaced driveways or compressed gravel paths. Can’t obviously take Tramper into 19th century house, but wheelchair available at front door to access rooms downstairs if you can transfer ok. There is big staircase to upstairs so unfortunately that’s not accessible but the Volunteer gives you a photo album of upstairs which was nice to look through in the hallway whilst another Volunteer played the Grand Piano there - very atmospheric! Thought I was in Downton Abbey! 2 eateries, 1 in old stables, other near walled kitchen gardens, again accessible and we had tea & scones at the Pavilion take away cafe which has outside seating and children’s play area. Pretty gardens, but not all accessible as some steps. House has its own Chapel too which has some steps. Enough to explore for a good couple of hours, but then I may be biased as it’s near to me & the NT saved it by purchasing the house AND all its original contents, complete with Southerby’s Auction tags! 🫣
