Overview

Urban Beach at The Pavilion is located right on the beachfront in Broughty Ferry, slightly out of the town. You can park right outside on the street for free, or walk from the town where there is only street parking or council car parks. The view is gorgeous, and you can sit outside or inside.

Transport & Parking

4.5

Street parking is available right outside. It might be helpful if the council could apply disabled parking bays at the front of the venue to save the nearest spaces for blue badge holders, but you can usually get pretty close to the front entrance as it is.

Access

3

There's an external ramp at either side of the front steps which take you up to the front door or inside the side door. The front door is a double door with no automatic button, and there was a chalkboard / sandwich board placed right in front of the door as you enter, blocking the open space inside. Tables are nicely spaced out and it was easy enough to move a chair for my friend to fit the powerchair in. The cake stand and counter is very high - chest height on a standing person - so it's not wheelchair friendly. There's a small play park and seating area at the back. Despite it being fairly newly refurbished, there is a step up to the seating. There is one table at level ground.

Toilets

The accessible toilet is located down a fairly narrow corridor. Probably more easily accessed from the external door at the side of the building. It was clean. There was no emergency red cord or alarm. The toilet was situated slightly off centre, so only one side for transferring. There was a sanitary bin located in the gap where transferring would not be possible, and an enormous yellow bin beside the sink. The sink had a cupboard underneath so no access for wheelchair footplates and someone's knees. The sink is also very high on the wall, and the soap dispenser even higher, made more difficult to access by the cupboard.

Staff

4.5

The servers were friendly and smiley and service was quick. When given feedback about the disabled access, the manager was very friendly and receptive.
