Overview

My husband and I went to the Storehouse on a members day before the public opening. It was amazing - you couldn't move without seeing another incredible treasure. It contains all the V&A objects that are not on display anywhere else. There are QR codes attached to some of the pieces, but we preferred to be in blissful ignorance and make up our own ideas on what we were viewing. It was like going into an old fashioned museum and letting serendipity rule - you don't need a plan, just go with the flow. The staff were amazing - so overjoyed about the venue finally opening, and wanting everyone to have a really special day (like they were!). We also got to listen to a short lecture on the Picasso signed Theatre backdrop "The Blue Train' - so large it had not been able to be displayed before. Three fully accessible floors of wonder. You can watch the conservators at work. And you can order up to 5 objects to view up close (supervised). Our highlights were the Torreijos ceiling and the innumerable pieces of wonderful furniture. Then, when we were ready to leave, we discovered the textile collection in pullout vertical trays on ground floor - and spent another 1/2 hour - rapt! We will be back - again and again. No bags are allowed in the Storehouse, but if you need to take a bag - approach the staff and explain exactly why.

three dedicated blue badge parking bays directly in front of the main entrance, more mixed parking bays across the road. Can't be booked, but do not think it will be a problem. We drove and parked easily. If you are driving, make sure you have the correct V&A (the other one is not open until 2026) - Use the postcode or street name from the website - https://www.vam.ac.uk/east V&A East Storehouse main entrance is on Parkes Street, E20 3AX, located inside the Here East building.
