Overview

Vue Islington is one of a chain of cinemas. This branch is located in Angel Islington inside Angel Central, a small shopping centre. The cinema has 10 screens and shows the latest mainstream films. It's step free with accessible toilet. At time of writing, February 2020, all online pre-purchased regular seats are £6.99. This is half the price you'd pay if you were in a West End cinema. Although you'd pay additional for the VIP seats.

Transport & Parking

The cinema/ shopping complex is almost opposite Angel Tube Station which is not step free. Nearest step free station is King's Cross and from there and there is the option to take buses to outside of Angel Central. There are several bus routes that serve the Angel Islington.

Access

4

The cinema is a little tucked away in the shopping complex. It's entrance is on the first floor. There are 2 lifts that take you up to the first floor. However, when I visited in February 2020 one of these lifts had a sign on it saying it was out of order. On the way out I was in the lift with a wheelchair user and their care and we filled the lift. On arrival at the first floor there is a push button automatic door, which again had a sign on saying out of order. Adjacent are manual doors. On entering there is an escalator and stairs with handrails to the second floor. The lift is tucked away on the left hand side. The main foyer is large and spacious and on the second floor. The ticket and refreshment counters are mainly at standing height, although I did notice one lower counter. There is no seating of any description in the foyer. I had bought my ticket online so I was able to show my ticket on my phone to the person at the desk at the entrance to the screens checking the tickets. There was a wide corridor with large windows on one side to the individual screens. I was in screen 6. Rows A to D at the front of the cinema had step free seating and there was space for a couple of wheelchair users. the rest of the seating was tiered.

Toilets

4.5

There was an accessible toilet in the main foyer. It required a RADAR key to open it. Inside it was spacious and clean. There were grab rails and an emergency cord which reached towards the ground. The lighting levels in the toilet were very low and this is why I marked it down slightly, I needed a moment for my eyes to adjust and this might be a problem for some visually impaired people.

Staff

As I had pre-purchased my ticket I only spoke to the member of staff who was checking the tickets. There was a total absence of staff at the first floor entrance and once again after my ticket had been checked and I went through to the screen.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This is an accessible, good value, locals cinema. The visual and audio are excellent but the seating in the regular seats are a bit dated, given that many cinemas have reclining seats now a days. If you're on holiday in London and want to visit the cinema this is a good option if you're not looking for anything fancy. This is a multiplex in the middle of central London and is very easy to get to. There are shops and restaurants in Angel Central, plus there is a huge choice of restaurants and cafes on nearby Upper Street.
