Overview
I was there to perform some poems with friends. It's a large public library. The librarians were welcoming but a few small improvements would have made it even better.
Transport & Parking
We drove there, and there is only parking on the road. To one side there is a car park but it is staff only. The spaces are not marked out. I think there was space for two or three disabled bays as well as staff spaces, but no parking was allowed there. My husband did pull in there to drop me off but then I had to walk all the way along to the main entrance, which has a steeper ramp.
Access
There was a ramp at the main entrance, but the ramp from the staff car park is less steep and it would have been good to have the option to be dropped off there, but the door was locked from the inside. I was allowed out that way and my husband pulled into the staff car park to pick me up. Inside all was level and there was plenty of wheelchair space. Lots of seats for a rest too.
Toilets
There was only one toilet but at least it was an accessible one. It was a long walk from the main entrance to get there, but it was very close to the staff entrance from the staff car park. It was OK for size, but a little basic and old-fashioned. I had to ask directions from the staff, and then it was occupied, and we had had a long drive. A library that size needs more than one toilet, especially as it was in a residential area and there was no sign of any cafes etc.
