Access Woolacombe Beach by hiring an All Terrain Mobility Scooter (Tramper) or Beach Easy Wheelchair from Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre. Beach Wheel Chair Information/Terms and Conditions of Hire The Beach Wheelchair and Tramper are available to hire from Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre, which is situated on The Esplanade, Woolacombe. Call 01271 870553 or email info@woolacombetourism.co.uk for more information, availability and bookings. The Beach Easy Wheelchair is available to book for half a day or a full day (times vary according to the time of year). The cost of wheelchair hire is £5 per half day/ £8 per full day. A security deposit is also required, e.g keys, ID card, etc. General Conditions of Use: The person pushing the Wheelchair should be fit and healthy and capable of controlling the wheelchair. There is no hand brake on the beach wheelchair. It is only safe to go down any slope where the person in control of the wheelchair feels they can stop it if required. There are various factors that have a bearing i.e. the weight of the occupant (maximum 18 stone), the capabilities of the pusher, the angle of the slope, the weather conditions at the time and the direction of the wind. Access to the beach is via the slipway, and is a fairly short but steep slope. The Tramper can be booked for a 2 hour session (times vary according to the time of year). You first need to join the Countryside Mobility Scheme, if you are not already a member. This can be done at the TIC, and costs £3.00 for a Single Use membership, £5.00 for a 2 week ‘Taster’ Membership, or £15 for a year. The cost to hire thh Tramper is £5 per 2 hour session. A security deposit also required, e.g keys, ID card, etc. Two routes are currently available – a route through the sand dunes to enjoy the flora and fauna and spectacular views around Woolacombe Bay, and a route providing access on to Woolacombe beach as far as Mill Rock. Hire is available to anyone with limited mobility aged 14 or above. (Max weight 25 stone). All users must be accompanied by an adult, and must carry a mobile phone. Training on how to use the Tramper will be given to the user at the TIC. Please contact the Tourist Information Centre for full terms and conditions, and to book.

Accessibility

The main entrance to the Tourist Information Centre is via steps however,there is a second entrance with a slope. To access the beach from the TIC, go to the end of the road where there is a drop kerb. Cross the road and go a long the pavement to the Slipway. Go down the slope in front of the shops, as this is less steep, straight on to the beach. The Beach Wheelchair and Tramper are both suitable for travelling on the sand.
