Overview

I visited the Tung Auditorium on the upper ground floor of the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre at Liverpool University which holds public concerts and performances. There are several theatres/auditoriums in the building, those on the upper floor were accessed by a lift. There is a cafe/bar on the ground floor next to the Tung Auditorium with plenty of room to manoevre a wheelchair and sit at a table (there are movable chairs). Staff will bring snacks/drinks to the table. There are toilets opposite the cafe/bar in the same building.

Transport & Parking

1

The reason I gave 4/5 stars There is a barrier controlled car park with blue badge spaces. I was assured that I could have access to the car park and the barrier would be lifted if I called using the access button. I did this and there was no reply. After 10 fruitless minutes I gave up and parked on the very busy road which I then had to cross

Access

5

There are about 12 steps but also a curved ramp to bypass them which is quite steep. There are automatic double doors which contrast visually with the immediate surroundings and open automatically (towards you). There is an exit push pad on the inside of the doors The Tung Auditorium is located on the upper ground floor and has very large double doors for access. It has 4 wheelchair spaces at the back offering a very good view each with companion seats next to it and enough space for an assistance dog to lie. The theatre states that it has a hearing system available

Toilets

5

There are male, female and accesible toilets on both floors of the centre This accessible toilet that I used on the ground floor did not require a RADAR key The door is heavy and opens outwards, it has a grab bar on the inside of the door. There are both fixed and drop down handrails and transfer space on the right side but I had to push the female sanitary bin out of the way There are fixed handrails by the sink which is a good height and an emergency pull cord which reaches to the floor There is a changing places toilet There is also a gender neutral toilet

Staff

5

There were plenty of friendly and approachable staff available
