We’re told by our community that the red emergency cords in accessible toilets are all too often out of reach, tied up, tucked away or even cut short - but the red cords are a safety feature which are meant to hang freely to the floor so they can be reached by someone who needs to call for help.

What do our Red Cord Cards do?

Our Red Cord Cards were designed to help raise awareness of the importance of the red emergency cord.

They are:

pocket-sized and splash-proof

easy to slide onto red emergency cords

printed with clear text that explains why the cord must hang freely.

They read:

"This red emergency cord must hang freely to the floor. If it does not, it may prevent a disabled person from asking for help.”
