Happy Birthday Euan!

Today is Euan's birthday.

He would be 52. And I think he would be chuffed with what we're sharing today.

Earlier this year Motability Foundation supported us to carry out an independent evaluation looking at the impact of Euan's Guide. It was undertaken by the good folks at Clear Impact Consulting. It draws on almost 5,000 responses to our Access Survey, hundreds of community and business survey responses, and thorough interviews with the people who use Euan’s Guide every day. I am so proud of what it found.

Nearly 90% of disabled people told us not only does Euan's Guide makes them feel more confident to visit new places but they have greater choice of accessible places to pick from. More than half told us they have visited somewhere new because of the information they found on EuansGuide.com. This is exactly what Euan set out to do over a decade ago.

As well as being a trusted source of information, one of key themes that emerged was that people felt that Euan’s Guide was “more than a directory, it’s a community”. 95% told us that they believe sharing information helps others and 86% of people felt that they were more connected to others.

Businesses are benefiting too. Over 90% of venues told us they see real value in sharing their information on our website and 75% have made accessibility improvements as a result of working with us. They were likely to recommend us eight out of 10 times… we’re working on those other two!

This all started with a man who was frustrated when he couldn't find out whether he could get into a gig, have a decent position at a football away match or go for a wee dram with pals.

Back in 2003, Euan was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease and became a wheelchair user. He and his sister @Kiki MacDonald built Euan's Guide because nobody else had.

He always said the goal was simple. Honest information, shared by real people, so nobody has to guess before they leave the house.

Today his idea to “remove the fear of the unknown” helps disabled people plan their days with confidence and pushes thousands of venues to make real, lasting improvements. That is the impact Euan wanted and we’re proud to continue his legacy. We know we’ve still got a long way to go and hope you’ll continue on the journey with us.
