York’s only 5-star luxury hotel, The Grand Hotel and Spa has the feel of somewhere from the golden age of travel inside a landmark Edwardian building. The building was once the North Eastern Railway headquarters, but today it is considered one of the best hotels in the world!

“A fine old building converted to a hotel. They have more than one disabled-friendly room, superbly equipped for wheelchair-users. Nice staff and high quality food.”

The Principal

Looking for a room with a view? The Principal is in the heart of the city with views of the York Minster and charming city architecture. The hotel is neutrally decorated and oozes calm and elegance at every turn. You can always head to the Garden Room for some afternoon tea when you feel like it!

“Once inside the hotel, which is beautiful by the way, it is easy to go to the lounge and restaurant which is big and spacious. They have a few adapted rooms with walk in showers, but if you don’t need full adaption, the suites on the first floor are very large, easy to get the chair around and have a view of the Minster.”

Hotel 53

A modern hotel within the historic city walls of York, Hotel 53 is an affordable place to stay close to the city’s major attractions, including the York Barbican and the York Castle Museum.

“A good central location for visiting York, spacious accessible room, friendly helpful staff and free parking with Blue Badge.”

Rainfall showers, comfortable beds, and a lively bar and restaurant – have you been to Hotel Indigo in York? The boutique hotel is located on Walmgate with all its furniture designed and made in Yorkshire; and the room numbers have been hand carved in the style of the York Minster!

“Very wheelchair friendly quality hotel with spacious wheelchair facilities. A choice of two lifts got us to our room 133 on the first floor. The receptionist organised for our baggage to be brought upstairs with a member of staff entering the bedroom to explain how everything worked. She also explained the evacuation procedure using the refuge next to our room.”

Hampton by Hilton

A short walk from the train station, Hampton by Hilton is a modern hotel with air-conditioned rooms and triple-glazing, perfect if you want the quietest night’s sleep. There is even a 24-hour pizza service if you’re in the mood for a midnight snack!

“The hotel is modern and wheelchair friendly with very helpful staff. It is, unfortunately, at the top of a reasonably steep hill which might prove difficult for manual wheelchair users.”
