    Aberdeen International Airport is located in Dyce, a suburb of Aberdeen, approximately 5 miles from the City Centre. Aberdeen is the north east gateway to the world, flying to over 50 destinations and serving over 3 million passengers a year. The airport is currently transforming its passenger facilities increasing the size of the terminal by 50%. In 2017 new International and Domestic Arrival areas were opened as well as a new passenger executive lounge. A larger and enhanced Security search area is due to be completed by summer 2018 along with new and exciting retail and catering facilities. The final phase of the project will be complete by 2019. The Airport is fully committed to being an inclusive and accessible environment and works closely with many disability organisations to enhance the service and facilities that are provided.

    Very accessible airport, disappointing accessible toilet.

    Access to the airport is level with automatic doors. Check-in near to the main door also the area to wait for assistance. The accessible toilet was near to both these areas however as I will explain it was not the best accessible toilet. Again as always the assistance staff were very good.

    Aberdeen Airport Assistance

    The staff were really friendly and helpful. They made me feel very welcome and supported me along the way. The airport also had the use of a manual wheelchair which was useful if I wanted to take myself off to a toilet. I liked that after security the team offered to take me on a route through the duty free shops which is something that wasn't offered at Heathrow and some other UK shops. I have felt previously that I would have liked to have seen the shops and this was a great idea. The team also left me in a restaurant and reassured me the time they would pick me up. They also found the restaurant manager so I didn't have to go up to the bar and order. Above and beyond! The only thing I would say that the disabled toilet didn't have a powered door. Therefore, it made it slightly difficult manoeuvring in and out of the toilet with a wheelchair.

    Disabled Access Information Provided by Aberdeen International Airport

    Disabled Access at Aberdeen International Airport

    The airport is a fully accessible environment with ramps and lifts provided where required. There are Assistance help points located in the Terminal forecourt, including the car parks, which automatically connect you to the Assistance provider if assistance is required from outside. A ramp is provided for access to the terminal from the upper forecourt where the car park, drop off and courtesy bus areas are located. The Jet 727 bus that connects the airport to the City Centre terminates on the lower forecourt which is on the same level as the terminal building. There are a set of automatic doors at the terminal main entrance. An assistance area including reserved seating is located to the right as you enter the Terminal building and is manned by the Assistance provider. Accessible toilets are located prior to and after Security. Within the departure lounge there is a platform lift for access between upper and lower levels. Departure gates 1-5 are located on the lower level. Departure gates 6-12 are located on the Northern Walkway which can be accessed by a ramp and standard lift. Passengers arriving from International access Immigration and Baggage Reclaim via a ramp. Induction loops have been installed in the terminal and can be found wherever you see 'sympathetic ear' signs. Tactile signage is in place at the entrance to the toilets. Airport directional signs are black on yellow, providing optimum contrast to assist all passengers. More information can be found on the Aberdeen Airport website including approximate walking distances. A Changing Places toilet is now available in the Departure Lounge (after Security), located beside the Distilling House. The facility can be accessed independently and there is no requirement to call ahead or collect a key.

    Accessible parking at Aberdeen International Airport

    Blue badge parking is provided within both Short and Long Stay car parks. A courtesy bus which is wheelchair accessible runs between the long stay car park and the terminal entrance terminating in the lower forecourt. Clearly signed blue badge parking is available at the very front of the Short Stay car park (approx. 100m from terminal entrance); also within the Priority Parking area next to the customer payment area and in the Long Stay car park next to the main bus stop. Blue Badge holders are entitled to 30 minutes free parking within the Short Stay car park. After this period expires, standard terms and conditions apply from the start of the parking period. There is an assistance telephone situated in the central glass area at the front of the multi-storey car park. This is located beside the car park payment machines (behind the lifts). Our assistance provider G4S can be contacted on this telephone. Seats are also provided while you wait for assistance For dropping off passengers, Blue Badge holders are entitled to a 30 minute free period within the main Short Stay car park. Blue Badge holders using the 30 minute free period within the Short Stay car park should present their blue badge card for validation at the Customer Service Office when leaving the car park. The Customer Service office is located on the exit route of the car park.

    Toilets features at Aberdeen International Airport

    The Changing Places toilet includes a height adjustable, adult sized bench and a ceiling hoist. There are unisex wheelchair-accessible toilets before and after security. All the accessible toilets provide step free access and the doors are wide enough to accommodate both powered and standard wheelchairs. There are grab rails and easy turn taps. A red pull cord is located in the toilet and is linked to our Terminal Safety Officer team who will respond on an activation.
