Overview

Bedminster train station is a small but colourful two-line station. It has a unique feel due to the surreal designs of the murals in the underpass and a print at the entrance showing a vibrant celebration of the "Bemmy" area – how the locals refer to Bedminster. There is step-free access to the station via ramps in the underpass, but the route from the city involves a steep hill to reach the station. It's not the most fun in a manual wheelchair or for those who find steep inclines difficult.

Transport & Parking

3

There is no local parking at this station, which backs onto a residential area. I expect you may be able to drop someone off or be dropped off easily enough, but not on the station grounds. National Rail's information suggests there are three spaces, but it looks like this may date from before a refit took place. The closest bus stop is 160 metres away on Dalby Avenue, where the 43, 74, 75, 76, A1 Airport Flyer, P1, X91 and m1 metrobus services operate.

Access

3

There is a single entrance to the station, where you'll find bike parking, a ticket machine and an overhead display advising of train times. The ticket machine is covered by a small rain shelter, the frame of which creates a narrow space to access the machine. It has a touch screen, which isn’t a great accessibility choice, as those who can’t see it – or can’t reach it due to its placement – may struggle to use it. The card reader and PIN pad are lower on the machine and reachable for most from a seated position. A headphone jack is available. Where possible, I’d suggest purchasing tickets online. If you go through the colourful underpass, the first exit will take you up the ramp to platform one, while the second will take you to platform two. Sadly, there are no handrails on either side of the ramps – this would have been a great inclusive addition. Each platform features yellow tactile paving along the edge. There are some seats on the platforms and in the rain shelters on both sides. A symbol for a hearing loop is displayed on each shelter. I didn’t notice any further alternative formats at this station.
