Disabled Traveller enjoys lunch at The Boot Inn, Studley
Approaching on busy A435, the Inn stands on a sharp bend, take care.
First impression is a typical drab grey and cream building, uninspiring, but don’t let it put you off.
The car park on the main road has just three disabled bays, but they are close to the front entrance, small potholes of course, but nothing to disturb you.
The main entrance has a slight concrete ramp as you reach double wooden pull handled doors, but once inside it’s a level floor up to booking in desk and Bar area. There are but a few level areas, and you are best advised to book in advance and let them know you have a scooter or wheelchair you need to use, then they can fit you in on one of the limited flat rooms in the Inn.
However, the vast majority of this Inn has steps, and we class it as unfortunately not wheelchair friendly.
But once settled in, you will find it a friendly little Inn, clean and tidy, deco ok, although we spotted a few areas that need a lick of paint to smarten it up, but generally appealing enough.
The staff were very pleasant, helpful and willing, so you will be well looked after, and will come to your table to take your order. Food is expensive, but well presented, large portions, hot, and very enjoyable.
There is an ample selection of starters and main courses, a well stocked drinks menu, consisting of few well known reds and whites, but don’t expect top class wines, pricey for what they are, but remember, this is but an Inn, not a restaurant.
We selected a pleasant enough Pinot Grigio white, 6.5 marks out of ten., and the pinot Noir red, 6 out of ten, both easy enough light wines but nothing to get enthused about.
We chose the Port and Cheddar Mushrooms with Fotaccia toasted bread, very enjoyable and a good portion offered, and I tried the Chicken Liver and Fig parfait with a tasty crisp hard butter topping, again very nice, with enough toast supplied to fill us up right away.
My wife chose her usual treat of a crispy Halloumi, but as a burger, very filling portion and enjoyable.
At any new place of eating I like to try their fish and chips, this tells me the standard of the chef, and their Tarragon battered line caught Haddock with thick cut chips was well cooked, crispy batter and a nicely cooked dry fish, huge, presented with green mushy minted peas, too dry for my liking.
Overall though, we were both more than satisfied with their dishes
The disabled toilet though was not impressive, a typical pub type cubicle, not a lot of room, up a slight slope with furniture blocking the passage, but at least it was clean, having a pull cord in working order and hand rails.
A scooter would find it very difficult.
The bill was correct, with offers applied and going out of the Inn was easy enough, BUT please be careful pulling out of the car park onto main road, the bends on both corners mean cars are on you very quickly, so take care.
Overall, we felt it to be a nice pleasant little inn, very enjoyable menu, with a small charge added to bill, but well worth our visit for lunch.
