Spacious store with some facilities.

3.5

Visit date:

Overview

The store had level access and wide doors which would accommodate a wheelchair. There was a disabled toilet at the back of the store and I was advised I would need to ask a member of staff for a key to access this. No hearing loop available as far as I could see.

Transport & Parking

3.5

Parked at Tower Street Car Park. From the council website: Blue Badge holders can park in this car park for free for as long as required. There are 31 dedicated disabled bays which are available for disabled badge holders only. The ground is quite uneven in the car park.

Access

3.5

Level access to the store. No hearing loop available as far as I could see. Large store signage identifying each section. Some of the posters did have small text, but there are many staff members about who I'm sure would be happy to help. Spoke to one member of staff at the till about a disabled toilet and she was very friendly and informative.

Toilets

Didn't see any signs around identifying the disabled toilet. Staff member advised me that there was one at the back of the store and that a key from a member of staff was required to access this. Staff member wasn't sure whether or not there was an alarm cord. Didn't view the actual toilet so unable to comment on the spacing etc.

Staff

There is definitely a good staff presence on the floor and appear willing to help customers. I spoke to a lady at the till who was very friendly, but wasn't too sure about some of the access questions I had about the store.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

For more information, I would advise contacting the store in advance as it depends on the difficulty that you have. In terms of physical accessibility, I think Boots is a very good store and the staff do seem very helpful. From Boots' image and the services that they provide, I would expect them to be aware of accessibility issues. The only thing I would improve is the knowledge of the staff about the disabled access/facilities available. However, I'm not sure how long this particular member worked there, another member of the team may have been more knowledgeable.
