Overview

Definitely worth a visit. I loved this place, it lived up to its name, such a beautiful garden with a little cafe and lots of interesting thing to see, we felt like we had taken a wrong turn, and you feel like it really is a secret garden, but it’s worth the trip, especially my husband would say for the cake. You can also buy plants here. You need to book tickets online but we didn’t know this and did it on arrival in the car park. The access looks terrible until you find out that you can drive around and drop off at the door, but you do need to ring them and the drive is through a bumpy track but fine for my van. I didn’t know this so I braved the path with my electric (quicke salsa) wheelchair which was ok but bumpy. I think in a manual chair going back up to the car park is steep, so maybe better to take the offer of driving down. Once at the garden access is absolutely fine all the way around, no issues.

Transport & Parking

3.5

No public transport options, easy parking but see summary for access. Ring when you arrive for access to drive to the door. You can wheel down but it’s bumpy and steep to get back up.

Access

4

Once inside it’s easy access, all level. Not many benches for resting which is a shame as lots of lovely things to sit and contemplate. Lots of information signs ( white on black) in quite large print. No braille.

Toilets

4

One toilet which was accessible itself but the path was a bit tricky, ok in a chair, a bit uneven. The toilet was big enough but the grab rail was a bit useless, however for an outside compostable loo I was impressed, it was very clean and pretty accessible, it wouldn’t take much to make it even better.

Happy and helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

With a bit of path improvement, toilet rails and some places to rest this place would be a lot easier for disabled people. It’s such a lovely garden I would definitely recommend a visit.
