Considering the general lack of access at suburban Glasgow train stations, I was happy to simply have a way to access both platforms at Carmyle from roughly the same locations as a wheelchair user. Still, 60-metre-long ramps are still not the easiest way to access a platform. There are even spots close to the tops of both ramps that could function as drop-off points, albeit lacking seating and only when you are driving South. It is not so handy for parking or taking the bus North, though.

Carmyle station has two platforms that are accessed via long ramps. When viewed from the road, platform 1 is on the right and platform 2 is on the left. Trains from platform 1 go West to Glasgow Central, Milngavie and Balloch. Trains from platform 2 go East to Whifflet and Motherwell. Both ramps are 60 metres long and slope gently downwards from the road. They have tactile markings on the top and a level patch of brick paving every 10 metres, whereas the rest of the ramp is paved with asphalt. There are some patches of bad repair to the asphalt paving, but otherwise it is serviceable. There is a handrail on one side of the ramp, on the left for platform 1 and on the right for platform 2. There are shelters on both platforms and a bench with backrest and armrests between the seats. Platform 1 also has a bike shelter. There are no ticket machines. Each platform has an overhead digital sign with orange writing on black for time and train information.

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle

There is a bay with space for 2–3 cars at the top of the ramp to platform 2 and a sort of driveway parallel to the top of the platform 1 that you can use as drop-off points, but that are less handy for pick up since there is no seating. Apart from that bay, there is no street parking in the area. The Carmyle station bus stop (64, 164, Ember) is 20 metres from the ramp to platform 1 and 50 metres from the ramp to platform 2.
