Overview

Really good facility. Brand new so everything is in good condition and nice and clean. The room is huge, plenty big enough for a wheelchair user and two carers (probably 10 carers!). There's an electric height adjustable changing table, an electric height adjustable basin, a hoist which can go anywhere in the room, drop down rails and grab rails either side of the toilet, a privacy screen, and an emergency cord. It's located at the toilet block by the bus station in the centre of Truro city, perfect for a day out. The city itself is not ideal for wheelchair users, a lot of bumpy flagstones and cobbles. But if you're prepared to be jostled around a bit to enjoy the city, then the CP toilet allows you to do this. The most important thing to mention about this toilet is the key. There is a special key that you have to buy (£5) in order to get into the toilet. It's easy to use (just wave it in front of the entrance), but not easy to purchase. You need to fill in a form and provide proof that you're in receipt of the higher rate Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment or Attendance Allowance. You can either download the form from the Truro Council website, or get one from Truro Library or the Tourist Information Centre. Once you’ve submitted everything you then have to wait a few days for it to be approved. Then you can collect the key from either the Library or the Tourist Information Centre. If you're a local like me, and you'll be travelling into Truro fairly regularly, then the faff getting the key and the £5 cost is worth it. But I imagine if you are thinking about going into Truro once, then it would be a real turn off. They explained that they have recently upgraded the entire toilet block at huge expense and lots of the homeless people have radar keys which is why they have the key set up that they do. Whatever the reason, it's not ideal. The website says it’s open 8am to 7pm every day. There are 2 CP toilets in Truro. I’m reviewing this one: Green Street Toilets, Green Street, Truro, TR1 2L.

Transport & Parking

It's situated near lots of the main shops (M&S, Primark etc) and the Hall For Cornwall. It's ideal for using while you're going round the city - you don't have to get into a car park to use it. However, some people may prefer it near their car. I guess it's swings and roundabouts. The nearest car parks would probably be the M&S one (Lemon Quay) and Tesco (Garras Wharf, accessed via the subway). The toilet is right by the bus stop so very convenient if you're travelling by bus.

Access

The toilet is very accessible, no steps and there's a door wide enough for a big power chair. The cobbles and flagstones of Truro are quite bumpy.

Toilets

The toilet facilities themselves are great. The only downside is the key.
