Overview
The 3rd Christmas Market in the Square Mile, a very ingenious design incorporating an oval ice rink into the Craig / Adam Georgian Garden. Being 360, it gives all round panoramic view of the Square it’s buildings all decorative and lit up. There is a central marquee there that has fully accessible seated areas and space for chairs and power scooters that have food and drink stalls with keeping you warm in mind. As with the toilets, everything is on street level, there are ramps situated where needed with four entrance and exit points, in addition to portable toilets the bars and restaurants have facilities that can be used. The ice rink is also fully accessible and Carers and chairs are welcomed - great idea, did not see any assistance dogs or huskies larking about on the ice though. St. Andrew Square has a very eclectic mix of food outlets, restaurants and bars, that are accessible and chair friendly, some more than others.
Transport & Parking
There is no parking in St. Andrews Square during the event but plenty parking in the adjacent Streets, especially after 18.30 when the pay parking restrictions end, the Tram stop is on the East side of the Square plus 4 bus stops with a wide range of services, for buses from further afield, the Bus Station is near the Tram stop. Waverley Station is 5 minutes away below Princes mall.
Access
Excellent., all on Street level, ramps situated where required, in the wet though the paving can be a bit slippery.
Toilets
Did not use any but there portable and accessible facilities as well as bar and restaurant provision available.
Staff
Event staff at every entrance / exit, very helpful with directions.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Different and very novel, what a difference it makes for additional space and not having everything crammed into one location.
