Short but sweet
Visited with one able bodied person, one manual wheelchair user and one crutches user, plus 2 small dogs. An initial note to say it is a fairly steep narrow firm gravel path from the car park up to where the trails begin. The Birch Trail (white trail) is advertised as disabled friendly as graded 'easy'. "1 mile long, wide firm gravel surface, some loose stones, long gentle slopes, with some moderate sections." I would say this is an accurate description. We did find some bits steeper and harder going - but we still enjoyed it, just wish it was longer than 1 mile. Every person we passed said 'hello', which is lovely. Our dogs certainly enjoyed it. The pathway is nice and wide all the way round. We also tried the Plantain Loch trail (yellow trail) - taking a left turn at the start of the trail. Again the path is wide, firm gravel, some loose stones and the odd exposed tree route. This is marked as 'strenuous'. Getting to the loch area which picnic benches and a wonderful view of the loch is just about doable with a wheelchair, we turned around and went back the same way - carrying on is not possible as it involves clambering up and down over rocks and large exposed tree roots. However we enjoyed what we were able to do of the trail.
