Dalbeattie Forest Town Wood

We had a lovely short hike here whilst passing through on holiday. We weren't really sure what to expect as a previous review wasn't very positive. We found it to be a nice walk though and would definitely come again if we were nearby. It isn't the easiest easy access walk but with an off-road wheelchair, it is certainly doable. The previous reviewer is right though, it is steep in places.

The website, signs and Google maps all Said the place was wheelchair accessible but it is not. Steep and gravely with stones poking up all over the so called "all abilities route" (this one had a wheelchair picture next to it.) I had to be pushed and even get out and walk in some places. I have attached a photo of the flattest bit of the walk. The signs are not tactile with no braille so if you are Blind you won't be able to read the routes. There are also lots of dog walkers so if you use a guide dog be aware that nearly all the dogs were off leads. Over all its ok if you are Abled or able to walk but if you are a wheelchair user make sure you have someone to push you and that your wheelchair is ok with loose grave (my tires kept spinning and burying themselves.) Lots of dog poo too everywhere so watch out. It's completely outdoors and nobody wore masks but they kept their distance
