Disabled traveller visiting Cheltenham area
Our general impression of this hotel that on arrival we had a feeling of excitement, as it looked presentable and inviting, well kept, and clean driveway, (photo 1). lots of parking, although only a few disabled bays, very close to hotel entrance. Our first problem was how to get up a step to be able to get into foyer, (photo 2) then we were very limited in our movement around the hotel due to the many steps everywhere. Although we really enjoyed our stay here, we feel we cannot recommend this hotel for disabled people, unless you are able to get up from a wheelchair, and be able to manage a few steps and short walks. Help was available by willing staff, but perhaps reading the rest of our review may guide you a lot more as to your thoughts of visiting this hotel.
Now to other facilities and rooms.
Having overcome the problems you can read about on getting to our room, we can say that entering the second foyer (photo 11) for our bedroom, we found it to be spacious and comfortable, (photo 12) room number 409, but it was not a smoke free room, the bed was very comfortable and we could leave our wheelchair by door for the room (photo 13). We did not regard this as a disabled room. The bathroom was not wheelchair friendly, passable if you can get up out of wheelchair, but we were pleased to have a walk in shower, but with a basic wash room, normal height for wash basin and shelves.
The restaurant proved to be interesting of how we could make use of it, steps again (photo 16) but it looked very nice, then we saw the lift notice that a member of staff would help us use the lift itself, (photo 17). The restaurant is well laid out, inviting and comfortable (photo 18) The evening meal was very good, filling and well presented, with a good reasonable selection, and attentive staff.
The breakfast bar (photo 19) provided a very good selection of buffet style food, with a very nice cooked breakfast, (photo 20) so very satisfied with the overall meals provided.
Our final thoughts for you is that we personally enjoyed this hotel, we gave it a 4 star rating, despite the problem of it not being wheelchair friendly, and if you, like myself can cope with the few problems of steps and short walking, then give it a go, it’s a nice hotel, clean, well looked after, and friendly staff to help you.
