Overview

What a delightful beautiful landscaped garden, at the moment, our favourite spot if you enjoy absolute peace and tranquility, with wonderful selection of trees and shrubs, a lovely small lake that holds many wildfowl, and we admired a flock of Canadian geese that grazed right up to the hotels terrace gardens. The gardens were probably built when the Manor House was built in 1684, and a sale notice of 1822 show some water features still in place. It has a recognised fishpond, canal, and a tree lined avenue, with a plantation of many beautiful trees and conifers. A gravel path continues up the side of a valley, passing mixed woodland and rhododendron bushes. After passing a circular bed (photo 9) There is a flight of steps across four grassed terraces on the west side of the hall (photo 8) and it’s here you have level grass path with walks towards the lake (photo 10) with a magnificent old Cyprus tree offering cool shelter The gravel path leads back to the rear of the hotel (photo 11) with rattan furniture (photo 12) with views up and across to the flight of steps (photo 13) OUR PHOTOS DO NOT REALLY SHOW THE BEAUTY OF THESE GARDENS, you must go and visit these yourself, and enjoy the joy of relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

Transport & Parking

4

First of all, you must drive through beautiful countryside views to reach the hamlet of Dumbleton, before taking the driveway that leads across open meadowland, with its private collection of grazing sheep taking a quite nap on our hot sunny day, with a magnificent view of the Hall ahead of us (photo 1) nestling under the tree lined hillside. The drive takes you right up to the hotels main entrance (photo 2).

Access

4.5

The hotel has level entry (photo 2) with a ramp in place for the only little step in sight (photo 3) if you wish to enter the hotel, but for this review of the gardens, just ride over to the left and round to the terrace garden area (photo 4) which now overlooks the hotel itself (photo 5) and you will see why we suggest you ride round to the terrace because of the steps you would need to take if you sat indoors (photo 6).

Toilets

1

We did not find any disabled toilet, but ladies and gents are available close to the reception desk, which were very clean, as expected in this delightful hotel, with enough room to get wheelchair into, but no grab rail in sight.

Staff

3.5

Only met one member, who seemed to happily do everything needed and made sure we enjoyed our afternoon visit.
