Disabled Travellers Cotswold tour (part 4) The historic Dumbleton Hall

Another very interesting and beautiful Hotel for you to visit.
A former house can be traced to around 1534, home to the Cocks family for about 200 years, but following the death of Sir Richard Cocks, the hall had to finally be
demolished.
In 1827 a London banker bought property at Dumbleton, but sadly, he died that same year, so his son Edward Holland inherited the land.
He was the founder of the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester, so a love of gardening was already in his blood, which was to feature very much when he had a house built on his property in 1830. It was built in the Tudor style of that day, and still survives up to date.
However, his fathers will had not been able to provide enough funds to continue in the house and he offered it to be leased in 1875 to Henry William Eyres, whose family later bought the estate.
Through 1902-1905 major rebuilding took place with many alterations.
Then in 1959 it was sold as a convalescent and holiday home, to be looked after by the Post Office Classic Hotels group. (P.O.F.R group). It was given a grade 11 listing.
It has been opened to the public since 1995, and in 2021 it was sold to the Dumbleton Hall Hotel property company Ltd. and represented nowadays as Bespoke Hotels

You arrive at Dumbleton Hall hotel along a country lane to the opened gateway that lies south of the church (photo 1) the gatekeepers lodge which in itself is very attractive and offers that sort of appeal that lets you know you are in for a treat. Then under a tree lined wooded hillside (photo 2) the lovely Dumbleton Hall can be seen, and a delightful ride along the driveway takes you up to the hotel (photo 3).
You may park anywhere you find convenient (photo 4) and enter the hotel via a level pathway (photo 5) then via a small ramp (photo 6) it will take you up into the reception area (photo 7)
Passing through a pleasant sitting room (photo 8) the far door will take you to the delightful library and Bar (photo 9) with a delicate patterned plastered ceiling (photo 10).
The brightly coloured but tastefully decorated restaurant (photo 11) offers homely evening menus, along with afternoon tea, served here daily (photo 12).
Behind this you will find a passage (photo 13) towards the toilets (photo 14) but we did not find a disabled toilet, but the ladies and gents were spotlessly cleaned, with modern facilities, no worries at all, and you can get a chair inside (photo 15).
A lift is available (photo 16) large enough to just take any chair (photo 17) and takes
you up to the spacious bedroom corridor (photo 18) with accessible rooms available on request beforehand.
Back downstairs, you may wish to sit in any of the comfortable lounges, or on a nice day, you may prefer to take in the garden views to take a drink, but there is a small step to get across (photo 19) so you may have to go out from the reception area, and be pushed over to the right and round to the side of the hotel (photo 20) and enjoy the delightful views over the landscaped gardens.

OUR FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s a beautiful elegant hotel, in outstanding surroundings, and a joy to sit inside or out, depending on weather. Do visit if you can, we certainly recommend this hotel.
