Date of visit: December 2025
I have experience of challenges around: a hidden impairment, accessing toilets, dexterity or coordination and moving around.
Overall Rating
Good
Dunbar leisure pool is welcoming for people with disabilities. Access is not a problem. There are disabled spaces in the car park and close by are EV spaces. In summer, picnic benches on a level grass area and a wonderful view of the old harbour and Bass rock. Wheelchair users can use the special chair which takes them into the pool. There is a wave machine and a slide for able bodied people. Disabled shower facilities and wide dressing rooms are available and a sauna downstairs (lift). Unfortunately, the cafe has closed but there is a seated area with drinks and snacks machines. Staff are very friendly and helpful, you could have a really fun experience in this family pool.
Disabled Access In and Around
Good
Automatic entrance doors then wheelchair level push button for electronic door access to the pool. Changing cabins to the right with overhead signs pointing out disabled cabins. Disabled toilet facilities all on ground level. Previous cafe tables and chairs by pool side. There are 3 ever widening stairs into the pool leading to children’s preschool water toys. The water is very shallow gradually getting deeper leading into a pool with lanes for swimming.. Always lots of young lifeguards on duty. Photography not allowed.
Accessible facilities: Step-free entrance, Seating at regular intervals, Step-free access to most areas, Lift to some areas
Parking & Transport
Excellent
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
At the moment, parking is free but the local council are thinking of charging however, Blue Badge parking will remain free.
Accessible facilities: Electric Vehicle Charging, Drop-off or pick up point, Dedicated on-site parking, Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
Good
In the main open shower area, there are approximately 8 showers which are push button for a measured dose of water. One of the showers is a normal fitting with a hot and cold regulator, grab rail and a wee seat or area for wheelchair. I use this one because the browser can come down for use when seated. I think there was a hand browser for over the disabled toilet. Facilities are basic but sink, soap dispenser, hand dryer at wheel chair level. Many young families use the facilities when not in use for disabled patrons however, staff would ensure facilities are accessible when you are heading in that direction.
Facilities: Accessible toilet
Staff
Excellent
Staff are very helpful and friendly. The manager has made many positive changes since his arrival and Lorna the assistant manager is very experienced and helpful. If you need help, the receptionist can organise assistance for you.
