Dunbar’s Cliff Top Trail is a scenic coastal walk in East Lothian that offers a beautiful way to explore the historic town of Dunbar. Starting near the traditional harbours and the dramatic ruins of Dunbar Castle, this trail follows the rugged red sandstone coastline toward the wide sandy expanse of Belhaven Bay. Visitors can enjoy views of the Bass Rock and May Island while passing points of interest like the Winterfield Golf Club and the site of the old outdoor swimming pool.
Accessibility highlights
This linear route includes sections of well surfaced paths and concrete promenade. While parts of the trail near the harbour involve steep climbs and several flights of steps, a level and step free section of the clifftop walk can be accessed directly from Marine Road. Public toilets are located in Dunbar town centre at Bayswell Road near the leisure pool and at the Shore Road car park by Belhaven Bay. A Changing Places toilet is available nearby at the Bleachingfield Centre. The area is served by regular bus and rail services to Dunbar station, which is approximately one mile from the trail.
