Cozy farm shop with great food
Erringtons Barn - which used go be The Big Red Barn - is a cute farm shop and cafe that makes a great stop when you're on the road to Peebles from Edinburgh.
When you enter you're met with an eye-watering (literally!) array of locally made cheese and charcuterie; jams, chutneys and fancy picky bits. I had a cheese scone which was so light and fluffy and still warm! The coffee was strong and good. Other customers were having brunch that looked and smelled delicious, but I couldn't linger.
The shop has ample parking with 3 paved spaces in an otherwise gravel car park. These aren't marked or cross-hatched but were empty when I arrived and are 15m from the front door. There is level access but large lip at each of the 2 front doors, and the inner door is heavy and was closed. The staff told me that they watch for their disabled regulars and let them in the side door which is level access and easier to negotiate in an electric chair.
The atmosphere in the cafe was welcoming and warm on a chilly day, and the staff were lovely though quite busy. All the tables had good clearance under them and I fit in my manual wheelchair, but I noticed all the chairs were the same type (unpadded no arms) and didn't look very comfortable.
The building as level access throughout. the music is low and unobtrusive, and I didn't have trouble hearing the waitress over the background noise.
The lighting inside was good because there are skylights as well as windows and electric lights in the main barn area of the cafe.
