Great for kids but surfaces worrying

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair

Overview

As a farm, its surfaces are mainly poured concrete with gaps and rough joins, so you need to be careful with a manual wheelchair. Some ramps caused our wheelchair to ‘bottom out’ . Busy accessible restaurant with friendly helpful staff. 2 disabled loos shared as baby changing, but only one has grab rails. Sand/gravel paths difficult when wet.

Transport & Parking

4.5

You need a car. 5 disabled parking spaces by the entrance. These have the best surfaces for a wheelchair that you’ll find in the whole of your visit.

Access

2.5

Everything is one one level, so no stairs or lifts needed. Some ramps (eg from the restaurant) are quite steep and our wheelchair footrests scraped on the ground at the bottom. Throughout the farm site surfaces were concrete but had some gaps and edges causing the wheelchairs front wheels to catch. It was a cold wet day when we visited and the sand/gravel paths round the fields were difficult. It’s a great place for kids to see and interact with animals, with lots of play areas, though we think that disabled kids would be frustrated by the lack of play areas that they would be able to use.

Toilets

2 shared with baby changing with plenty of space, though only one of them had grab rails.

Staff

Helpful, especially in the restaurant. But it was a quiet day and they weren’t pressed. Might have been more difficult for them if it had been a warm school holiday day with loads of families around.

We would have appreciated more signs telling us what varieties of animals we were looking at.
