Disabled Travellers Midsomer Murders tour ( part 16 )

SAT NAV. RG9 6QD. FINGEST, Henley on Thames FINGEST, originally named by a Norse name could mean, “Wooded hill where the assembly meet” It is just a tiny hamlet which is situated in beautiful undulating countryside, very quiet and peaceful, a joyous hidden little spot, with but a half dozen dwellings and the attractive old Grade 1 listed parish church of St Bartholomews. It dates back to Norman times, and have a look at the unusual tower, it has a doubled vaulted roof. It is the oldest building in the parish. What we liked was that Flint stone is used on walls and houses, all adding to the effect that this area holds out for us all, such as FINGEST HOUSE. Even though a small hamlet, it has been used in three episodes of Midsomer Murders, “Country matters” “ The silent land” and “A dying art, when “The Chequers” became an antique shop. It was also used for a period drama “The Monuments Men” shot in May 2013. It’s not so much the hamlet that we write about, but the scenery on the way towards our next visit at TURVILLE, so it’s well worth the ride.
