Fitzalan Square/Ponds Forge was a tram stop located close to the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre and Fitzalan Square. The platforms for either direction were located in the same area with a level section at one end of the stop. This tram stop had road traffic on one side of it with a pedestrian crossing available at one end to get to the stop itself. This pedestrian crossing was also where the platforms became level to allow you to cross over from one side to the other. The stops are on elevated parts of the pavement, which means the pavement is level with the trams once they arrive. There was a small sheltered area that had information boards and small benches to sit on. The edges of the stop had painted yellow lines and were also marked with tactile paving. There was additional tactile paving, which went in the opposite direction to that marking the edge of the stop. These aligned with the most accessible doorways of the tram when it pulled in. There was a digital board which told you which trams were expected along with approximate wait and arrival times for each one. There was a clear sign with the tram stop name on each end of the raised area and these had bins beneath them too. Once the tram arrived, there was a small gap and lip to board, but I found this still manageable with my wheelchair’s castor wheels and didn’t have any problems.
Disabled Access In and Around

As the pavement is raised to be the same height as the tram doorways, there are small ramps on each side of the tram stop. These aren’t steep and are manageable to get up and down. There is tactile paving to signify both the edge of the platform and the best places to board the tram. There is a small gap between the tram and the pavement when the tram stops, but this wasn’t something I found to be an issue in my wheelchair.

From this stop, you can access all of the tram lines. The yellow services travel between Middlewood and Meadowhall. The blue services travel between Malin Bridge and Halfway. The black services travel between Cathedral and Parkgate. The purple services travel between Cathedral and Herdings Park. Just 30 metres from the tram stop is a bus stop called Commercial Street. Here you can get the services 7a, 24, 25, 30, 30a, 56, and X30. There is another bus stop with the same name, Commercial Street, which is located on a road lower down than the other bus stop. This is roughly 300 metres away from the tram stop and here you can access the following services: 50 gold, 50a, 50s, 71, 71A, 71S, X5, X6, X7, and X11. Just under 100 metres away from the tram stop is also Fitzalan Square bus stop where the SC1 bus service stops.
