Overall Rating
Excellent
Lovely level access restaurant and bar in the heart of Broughty Ferry. As well as visiting the venue when it was open to the public, I attended a wedding here which meant it was closed to the public. It was beautiful for a wedding. I was a little apprehensive that I wouldn’t be able to move around too much but, there was plenty of room. I did find it a little difficult to speak to people when we were sat at the long tables for our meal and the party at night however, I was mostly up dancing at night.
Disabled Access In and Around
Excellent
The restaurant is a little hidden from the main street as you go up through a sort of barn door-type entrance, up past an outdoor seating area to the main door of the restaurant. I would say it is a very heavy door to open, you might be able to see what I mean in the image below, and there isn’t a button to open it automatically. This might not be able to be installed but maybe a doorbell system can be put in place to alert staff at the bar that someone needs assistance to get in. When you first enter the venue you come to the bar. As you can imagine this area can get quite busy and I do sometimes find it difficult to get through to the restaurant. Staff members can help you if you need it though. Within the restaurant there are different areas that you can sit at. In the middle there are tables that seat 4 people however, they can probably be moved together to seat more. Then around the sides there is more private seating areas that seat 6 people, it is a little bit harder to get into these tables at either side but I have sat at the end of the table before and not felt in the way. Each side has 3 private areas, although I have been to a family meal before where the tables have been turned the other way and it was a row of all three tables at one side. All tables are at a great height for wheelchair users. Although I do struggle to have a conversation with many people at long tables, I prefer circular tables if I’m in a big group.
Accessible facilities: Single-level venue, Step-free entrance, Step-free access to most areas
Parking & Transport
Excellent
I travelled to this place by personal vehicle
There is no direct parking for this restaurant however, there is lots of parking nearby. Outside there is on-street parking but, this can get quite busy. As far as I can remember there are 3 council car parks around a 5-minute or less walk away from the restaurant. There is a bus stop nearby that has busses stop from all over Dundee and Angus, there is a taxi rank just down the road from the restaurant and there is a train station in Broughty Ferry but I don’t know how often trains stop there.
Accessible facilities: Public or on street parking
Accessible Toilets
Good
The accessible toilet is quite spacious but, you can only transfer from the left side of your wheelchair. I can’t transfer as I need the use of a Changing Places however, there is plenty of room for my carer to help me reposition myself in my wheelchair or with anything else. The only issue is that I feel the emergency red cord is located right in the middle of the accessible toilet and my carer was frightened she was going to pull it when she was moving around to assist me.
Facilities: Accessible toilet
Staff
Excellent
Whenever I have visited this restaurant all the staff have been very friendly and helpful.
