    Excellent

Fort William Railway Station is a relatively small railway station, although the largest and busiest on the West Highland Line. It is possibly best known as the starting terminus of the Jacobite Steam Train aka the "Harry Potter" train, and there are scheduled services to Mallaig and Glasgow. It is also the terminus of the "Deerstalker" Sleeper train to London. The station building is on a single level with two entrances. The front entrance from the (small) car park is completely on the flat, the back entrance from the bus station, taxi rank and Morrisons supermarket has a substantial slope but is fine even if self-propelling. There are no ticket gates and the island platform is tarmacked. A ramp is available and it is staffed for all departures, although not always at all times. The ticket office has a lowered counter. The news kiosk is currently (2026) shut. There is a waiting area inside and a separate waiting room for Sleeper travellers. There is also an excellent café within the station with great wheelchair access. Their Breakfast Roll is a must have, their burgers are to die for and they do the best chips in Fort William.

Both entrances have automatic doors with completely flat entry. Once inside, the building is all on one level, aside from a wide, sloping corridor from the rear entrance to the concourse. All areas are wheelchair accessible. The ticket office has a lowered counter.

Accessible facilities: Single-level venue, Step-free entrance

    Parking & Transport

    Good

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle

There is a small free car park immediately outside the front entrance with four disabled bays. However it often fills up and there is a lot of haphazard parking going on with people getting dropped off. There is a much larger long-stay car park about a five minute walk/wheel away. There is a taxi rank opposite the rear entrance and the bus station is a five minute walk/wheel away.

Accessible facilities: Drop-off or pick up point, Dedicated on-site parking, Public or on street parking

    Accessible Toilets

    Good

The accessible male toilet cubicle is just inside the turnstile. There is a 20p charge... however, maybe I've just been lucky but I've always been buzzed through without needing payment. It is Radar-access but staff have keys. The toilet is amply-sized for manoeuvring with a manual wheelchair and has the requisite grab-rail set-up. There is also a shower available

    Excellent

Staff are always friendly and quick to offer assistance. Be aware that the station is not always staffed outwith train departure times.
