Fort William Railway Station

Fort William Railway Station is a relatively small railway station, although the largest and busiest on the West Highland Line. It is possibly best known as the starting terminus of the Jacobite Steam Train aka the "Harry Potter" train, and there are scheduled services to Mallaig and Glasgow. It is also the terminus of the "Deerstalker" Sleeper train to London. The station building is on a single level with two entrances. The front entrance from the (small) car park is completely on the flat, the back entrance from the bus station, taxi rank and Morrisons supermarket has a substantial slope but is fine even if self-propelling. There are no ticket gates and the island platform is tarmacked. A ramp is available and it is staffed for all departures, although not always at all times. The ticket office has a lowered counter. The news kiosk is currently (2026) shut. There is a waiting area inside and a separate waiting room for Sleeper travellers. There is also an excellent café within the station with great wheelchair access. Their Breakfast Roll is a must have, their burgers are to die for and they do the best chips in Fort William.
