Overview

I happened upon this trail by accident, and what a happy accident it was. Like half the world, I was a huge fan of the Game of Thrones TV series. I loved the complexity of the characters. Villains would become heroes, heroes would become villains and there was a genuine sense that nobody was safe. What a rich world to visit. It was just a shame how rushed and poorly written the ending was. To coincide with the terrible final season, six stained glass windows were installed depicting scenes from the series and celebrating that much of the show was filmed at the nearby Titanic Studios. A notable installation has a metal seat where those who are able can sit before a glass representation of the Iron Throne. My favourite window is located near the SS Nomadic, which is dedicated to the White Walkers and the gentle giant Hodor. That scene still gets to me.

Transport & Parking

There is no parking at the AC Hotel, where the route begins, but NCP Belfast City Quays is 320 metres away. There are accessible parking spaces here, but NCP doesn't confirm how many on their website. The closest bus stop is Clarendon Dock, 320 metres away, where the 2J, 2K and 2M services operate.

Access

Starting at the AC Hotel, the trail is 1.5 miles long, and the way is mostly level, though there is some variation in the surfaces underfoot, from slabs to tarmac and cobbles. There's also a bridge to cross to complete the route, so expect an incline as you cross the River Lagan. There is no audio guidance or use of alternative formats along this route, which is why I haven't given this section the highest rating. Along the way, you'll find no shortage of cafés or places to sit, so there's no rush to cover the trail. Take your time, enjoy pacing the banks of the Lagan and make sure to get a photo of all six installations.

Toilets

There are no dedicated toilets on this route, but there are bars, cafés and an entertainment complex along the way that may be suitable.
