Overview
Our "Star Project" group had a great time visiting to the Glen Lyon Coffee Roastery. We enjoyed some of their amazing coffee and cakes, and took a look at their wee shop, which had some fascinating books related to nature and hiking, as well as some beautiful coffee products. The amazing smell of fresh coffee being roasted and the incredible selection on display made it a really nice place to be. It was a bit tricky to enter the place, as there are no ramps at the door — we had to lift the wheelchair up to get in. If you are unable to lift your own wheelchair or someone else's, you will not be able to enter. Once inside, however, it is easy to move around as the place is very spacious and well organised. We could easily see the drinks and cakes on offer, and there was tap water available; it was just a bit high for someone in a wheelchair. There are comfy seats indoors with enough space for a wheelchair. There is a lovely covered wooden seating area outdoors with sofas and chairs, but it is not wheelchair accessible. However, there were two accessible tables near the entrance, and as the weather was good, we could still enjoy the outdoors and have a great time. We got to chat with the owner, who was lovely and interested in getting feedback from us to help improve the space for people with different needs, which made our visit even better. He said he is looking to install ramps soon to make all the areas accessible. It is a quiet, clean space that is welcoming if you are sensitive to noise and light. It's definitely a pleasant place with wonderful coffee; you just need to bear in mind the conditions for entering and we would recomend it.
Transport & Parking
There is a bus stop nearby. We could not see any disabled parking marked, but there is a large car park around the entrance, which is easily accessible.
Access
There are no lifts or ramps in this building. The lack of ramps makes it quite tricky, as the outdoor covered area is inaccessible for wheelchair users, and the indoor space is only accessible if you lift the wheelchair up to get in. However, there are two tables outside in an uncovered area which are accessible, and there is enough space inside for a wheelchair if you get in. There is plenty of space to move around inside. It is quite tricky to get into the disabled toilet, but a very kind member of staff offered to move a table to make it easier, although we managed not to have to do that. The menu was accessible on the wall. The cakes were all at a good height to be seen. Tap water and cups were available, but they were a bit higher up for a wheelchair user. If you are someone who finds noise and light overwhelming, this is a place that comes highly recommended as it is able to maintain a tranquil atmosphere.
Toilets
There is a disable toilet and it is easy to find it. The only issue is that if you are not able to lift your own or someone else's wheelchair to get inside the café, you won't be able to access it. It was also difficult to manoeuvre into. But it's a great toilet. It's a bit tight inside, but we managed to manoeuvre around and there was enough space for a carer. The grab rails were very good. It was clean and tidy, and there was a large selection of free period products available. It is not a Changing Places toilet. It's great that the red cord was droped down making it easily accessible.
Staff
The staff were kind. They weren't specifically helpful when we first arrived, but someone did offer to help us when we were trying to enter the toilet, and the same person was very kind when taking our order. Then we got to chat with the owner, who sat with us and had a very pleasant conversation. He made our group feel very welcome and said he was keen to make the place more accessible, which made our visit even better.
