Overview

The passport office is in a new location since I last went 10 years ago. It looks to be a new building and there is a long wheelchair ramp up to the main entrance that runs along the kerbside side of the bar/café opposite. If you're a wobbly walker it's a very long ramp or there are stairs but the entrance is almost 1 storey high I'd say. If you drive past the Passport Office there are some on-street disabled parking bays. The security staff were all polite, friendly and helpful especially when I thought I'd lost my phone. I went in just before the Passport staff strike and expected it to be busy - it wasn't, I only had to wait a few minutes before being called for my appointment. There was plenty of room for me to manoeuvre in my wheelchair. If I'd struggled the security staff were offering to move the tape barriers for me - like you have at an airport check-in. Minus a star for no accessible toilet. I don't remember but my husband said there wasn't an accessible toilet so I was shown to the staff toilet as that was accessible. There's no accessibility info on the gov.uk site for the passport office which would have saved a lot of worry. The old Durham passport office site was completely inaccessible. There is a park at the end of the road so my driver went there and took the dog for a walk while he waited.

On street disabled parking bays up the street past the Passport Office building. Not many bays and they e=were all occupied but there was room to park with a blue badge.

Polite, friendly and accommodating. Not phased by dealing wiht someone in a wheelchair through security and the queuing system they had laid out.
