Overview

Directly under the Forth Rail-bridge, the honeypot Creative Café is in an amazing location, and with windows all along one side of the building, it really makes the most of the views! The Creative Café is for everyone - adults and children ...even pets occasionally! It offers a variety of classes and workshops, group bookings and parties, as well as being open for you to 'drop-in' to any time. We tried ceramic painting and glass fusing, other options include soap-making, bath bombs, wood craft etc. There is also a small café and shop, which you can visit with, or without, doing anything creative.

Transport & Parking

4

There is a train station (Dalmeny) which is approx. a 10 minute walk away - it is down hill to the Creative Café, but might not be such an easy walk/push going back up it! We travelled by car. There is a small parking area just outside the Creative Café (unmarked gravel area), but there is a larger car-park just before you reach the Café, which has several marked disabled bays. There are some narrow and cobbled roads as you come through South Queensferry, so it is a little more bumpy for a few minutes. It is a popular place with tourists, so the streets can be fairly busy, but everyone seemed quite accommodating of each other.

Access

3.5

I wouldn't want to put anyone off visiting as the Creative Café is a lovely place, I just think a couple of little touches could make it even more accessible for people, and that's why I have given it this rating. There is a small step to the main door, this is a double door which can be opened widely. There is also a side door (which isn't used so much) this also requires you to step up to go in, and is a narrower single door. If you have good mobility there is no problem at all. If using a manual chair, you could probably be assisted to get over the step in your chair. However, with a powerchair, or scooter this would be difficult. A small ramp here would make all the difference and is easy to do (we took our own ramp with us). You go through the shop when you first enter, this is wide with plenty of room to move round. You then go into the Creative and Café area, this was also big enough to move around in -although the layout of the tables does get changed around sometimes depending on the number of people/workshops going on.

Toilets

3.5

There is an accessible toilet within the Creative Café. It was easy to get to, as just at the side of the main Creative and Café area. It was a pretty standard accessible toilet, and was fine, but again a couple of small adjustments could make it even better. The soap and towel dispensers, and mirror, were all too high if trying to reach them from sitting in a wheelchair.

Staff

5

We all felt made to feel welcome at the Honeypot Creative Café, the staff were very friendly, and showed you how to make the various things. You could ask for their help at any point, but they also gave you space to chat and just enjoy what you were doing, we were there several hours and didn't feel rushed at all. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. We all felt we wanted to go back again!

Anything else you wish to tell us?

As a group of adults we all really enjoyed our experience at the Honeypot Creative Cafe. Remember, if you are making something which will need fired in the kiln, you will have to return (usually about a week later) to collect your finished piece.
