Excellent all round place to visit particularly at music festival times.

Good

Islesburgh community centre is in the middle of Lerwick & is a very accessible venue. This is where the Shetland Folk Festival & Shetland Accordion & Fiddle festivals base there main hubs at festival times. There are a lot of meetings that take place here eg SGSKWD, Shetland needleworkers, traditional music nights & a variety of other events. Look on website for details. There is also a cafe on site & children’s soft play area.

Disabled Access In and Around

Excellent

There is a ramp from the car park up to the main doors which is automatically opened by pushing a metal button just outside. The ground floor is all level with entry to various rooms & the cafe. There is a lift that goes up to the first floor where there are a variety of meeting rooms.

Accessible facilities: Lift to all areas, Step-free entrance, Seating at regular intervals

I travelled to this place by personal vehicle

There are 2 dedicated disabled parking bays however the car park can be very busy at times. I always go there with private cars so don’t know about public transport.

Accessible Toilets

There are at least 2 accessible toilets, 1 on each floor that I know about. The doors are quite heavy due to it being an old building but are manageable. The toilets are clean with plenty of grab rails & room for wheelchairs. I don’t think there are red emergency cords as far as I remember but will check on my next visit.

Staff

Good

Staff ok, don’t really see much of them, they sit behind a glass reception area. Staff in the cafe are very helpful & will take food to your table for you. It’s a self service cafe.
