Overview

The Kahn Family have ran this restaurant in the Southside of Edinburgh for over 40 years. My involvement has been since then and has involved all our family. It’s no frills, very busy especially during the Summer months and over the Festival period. It’s basic but the food is complimented by the vast number of Mr Kahn’s family and community who meet and eat there. This is often a sign of authenticity, quality and value. It is particularly unique in that the dishes are not always entirely the same every time - that’s not a bad thing as it underpins the quality. I like more coriander so it comes with extra, nice we individual things make it what it is. Whether it be sit in or carry out the food is excellent. It’s tight but it can be wheelchair accessible, but be aware it is basic. The toilet is unisex but wide enough for a chair. The restaurant is in Nicholson Square, a one way square with parking in the area for blue badge holders as well as bays, bus services are via the square - 2, 12, 47 and 300. 30m in either direction on the main A7 route are bus services 3, 5, 7, 12, 14, 20, 30, 31, 33, 37, 41, 42, 47, 200 and 300 buses plus southbound to the borders area. The Khan family are exceedingly friendly and welcoming and no effort is too great to assist in anyway.

Transport & Parking

Parking in and around the Square, the Mosque car park is also close by, bus stops in the small square are no more than 20m from the restaurant.

Access

0

All on street level, though the Square itself has access via for crossings, pavements are stepped but with ramped access areas. Again, it’s basic so no signage or supports which you may expect.

Toilets

Tight but very basic, could be serviced better.

Staff

Can fault the Khan family at all.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This restaurant has won every award that a Curry house can achieve, it is the current holder of best Scottish curry award for 2018 / 19. You can tell by the number of years I have been going here that I am bias towards the food on offer. It might not suit everyone’s likes but it’s has an excellent reputation from and to people from a diverse range of countries and cultures on other review sites. Whilst there are lots of improvements that could be made, it’s a place you need to experience in context.

Great review, thanks very much! Especially helpful to have bus numbers listed - that's the sort of stuff I find useful!
