    Leeds Discovery Centre

    About

    The Leeds Discovery Centre is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built museum storehouse and conservation facility located on Carlisle Road in Leeds (LS10 1LB). It houses over 1.3 million objects from the Leeds Museums and Galleries collections that are not currently on display in the city's main museums. Leeds Discovery Centre is now a Give What You Can museum. We invite visitors to donate to support the museum if they are able.

    Please remember a booking must be made before visiting. Donations can be made when booking a tour online, and with cash and coins in our donation box in reception.

    Disabled Access Information Provided by Leeds Discovery Centre

    Disabled Access at Leeds Discovery Centre

    Leeds Discovery Centre is located 1.5 miles by foot or 3.4 miles by car from Leeds city centre. Pedestrian access to Leeds Discovery Centre is via Carlisle Road, which connects to the entrance. There is a ramp at the right-hand side of the building (when facing the front of the building) for step-free access. The entrance door is via a button which rings a bell to advise a member of the team to open the doors. The doors are automatic with a wide clearing space. The education spaces and museum collections store are situated on the ground floor of Leeds Discovery Centre and there is level access throughout. There is a lift to the first floor meeting room and offices. A wheelchair is available to borrow for visits. Unfortunately we cannot provide assistance around the museum for wheelchair users. Please contact us in advance of your visit to ensure the wheelchair is available.

    Accessible parking at Leeds Discovery Centre

    There are two designated accessible parking spaces in the free car park at Leeds Discovery Centre. Access from the car park to the entrance is up a long and gradual ramp. An accessible ramp at the back of the museum can be used for evacuation in emergencies.

    On-site accessible parking bays are available within 50 metres of the entrance.

    Transport nearby Leeds Discovery Centre

    The closest bus stop to Leeds Discovery Centre on Carlisle Road is the South Accommodation Road stop, located approximately 132 meters away (a 2-minute walk). Additionally, more frequent high-frequency services operate along nearby Hunslet Road, which is about a 5-minute walk from the centre. A number of bus routes stop on Hunslet Road including the 110, 140, 141, 444, 446, 47A and 47. Plan your journey by bus. Leeds Railway Station is 1 mile away (approximately a 25 minute walk).
